Who We Are

Amanda grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where she filled the family’s living room with Lego cities and K’nex creations. That began a love of architecture and of building things. She started her architecture career with a design-build firm working on historic residential projects. Splitting her time between the field and her desk, she gained experience in the design of beautiful homes and learned how buildings go together. This also started her love-affair with historic properties. From there, she went on to the commercial design world, working on corporate headquarters, commercial interiors, and prominent historic government buildings in Washington, DC. Along with her passion for the profession of architecture, Amanda has a love for well planned, thoughtful, and exquisite interiors. As both a licensed architect and interior designer, she envisions all sides of the project and creates spaces that function as well as they are beautiful. Drawing on her talents acquired from both commercial and residential design, you can often find Amanda in her boots alongside the construction team.

Born and raised in Franklin, TN, Ben aspires to instill a sense of elegance, charm, and place in each design. As a youth, he spent countless hours drawing house plans and exploring dusty construction sites investigating how buildings come together. He started his career working with several distinguished architectural practices designing estate homes in communities ranging from Cashiers, NC to Jackson Hole, WY where he learned to appreciate the value of place-specific design. Ben also spent time in the field learning to build his designs; an experience that has proven invaluable when collaborating with contractors. As his career progressed, he transitioned into commercial design where, as a Project Architect, he collaborated on the design and managed the construction of multi-million-dollar mixed-use, multi-family, and collegiate projects. Ben has an incredible eye for detail and a passion for good design. He is known for his dedication to precise and well-thought details as well as his ability to communicate through all stages of design and construction. You can typically find him walking jobsites observing the construction and striving to assure the client’s vision is realized.

Chisel Workshop was established by Amanda and Ben McCreary with a vision to create thoughtful, site-specific spaces. Their strengths complement one another. Clearly, we are a family affair. Ben and Amanda met at Virginia Tech and have two incredible boys. Their oldest son is Vice President of Future Architects at Chisel and their youngest son has declared himself the Manager. Ben and Amanda are constantly drawn to the pristine mountains and scenery they admired while in college. When not enjoying their time in Franklin, you can usually find them in their RV, taking in the beauty of National Parks or escaping to Disney World.
